AFF has implemented child safeguarding initiatives through school and community platforms to promote safer environments and strengthen the protection and wellbeing of children and adolescents.
We are uncompromising in our commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and safety of all people — particularly children, women, and vulnerable populations — across all our operations.
This commitment is embedded in our policies, culture, systems, and accountability structures. Every team member, partner, and stakeholder shares responsibility for safeguarding.
We operate with complete transparency in all safeguarding matters. Clear policies, open reporting channels, and public accountability standards define our approach.
We prioritise the safety of vulnerable populations above all else. Robust protocols, prevention measures, and survivor support systems are in place.
We hold ourselves and all partners to the highest standards. Violations are investigated thoroughly and addressed decisively.
We work with communities and local partners who share our safeguarding values. Collective responsibility drives our collective impact.
We amplify the voices of those we serve. Communities lead safeguarding conversations and the decisions affecting them.
We continuously train staff, update policies, and learn from incidents. Safeguarding excellence requires ongoing commitment.
AFF ensures that everyone who comes into contact with us — children, young people, adults, staff, volunteers, partners, and communities — is protected from abuse, exploitation, harassment, neglect, discrimination, and other forms of harm.
The Board and senior management have clear responsibility for safeguarding, with safeguarding included in organisational governance, risk management, and strategic planning.
We develop and regularly update policies covering child safeguarding; prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment (PSEA); SGBV; protection from harassment and discrimination; code of conduct; whistleblowing and complaints; data protection and confidentiality; and online/digital safeguarding.
Safeguarding is integrated into recruitment through appropriate background and reference checks, safeguarding-related interview questions, clear job descriptions, and signed codes of conduct.
We ensure staff, volunteers, consultants, partners, and community actors understand safeguarding responsibilities, expected behaviours, reporting channels, and how to identify and respond to concerns.
We maintain confidential, accessible, survivor-centred reporting channels through which concerns can be raised safely and without fear of retaliation.
We conduct safeguarding risk assessments before and during projects — particularly for work involving children, adolescents, SGBV survivors, vulnerable communities, field activities, and digital engagement.
Implementing partners, consultants, contractors, and other relevant third parties are required to meet AFF’s safeguarding standards.
We include safeguarding indicators and checks within programme monitoring, conduct periodic reviews, document lessons learned, and take corrective action when risks or gaps are identified.
Concerns can be raised confidentially and without fear of retaliation. Every report is taken seriously.
